The Story of the Blues is a documentary about the origins of the genre of blues and soul. This type of music has a history similar to Jazz which we have previously talked about. The African American community dominated the foundation of the blues with early artists such as Blind Lemon Jefferson. Mostly in the Eastern US, places like Chicago and New Orleans were became the roots of blue music. This genre spread across the eastern sea board up to New York easily as people were traveling and playing music as they went. Each song is really felt and composed from deep emotion, whether that be sadness, oppression, or happiness. These artists really put everything into their music as a form of connection to their roots as well as a way to speak out without actually having to. As time progressed, new instruments and styles were brought in and added different textures to the music and forming the blues we now have today. Louis Armstrong is a big name from the blues and jazz community with his amazing skill on the trumpet and his presence in the "Golden Age" of Jazz.
